Inspired by the book series, “Peter and the Starcatchers,” this rousing piece captures the innocence, adventure, danger, and wonderment of the early days of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys as they travel the seas in search of the magical “star stuff.” The intense darkness of the pirate Black Stache even makes an appearance with alternating measures of 4/4 and 7/8 as well as special vocal effects throughout the ensemble.

Program Notes
StarCatchers was commissioned by the Central District Bandmaster’s Association for performance by the 2016 Middle School All-District Symphonic Band on January 30, 2016. The five-and-a-half-minute piece was inspired by the young fiction series “Peter and the Starcatchers” by Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson, which explores the younger adventures of Peter Pan that took place before he met the Darling family as told by J.M. Barrie. It is meant to capture the innocence, adventure, and wonderment experienced by Peter, Molly, & the lost boys as they travel around in search of the magical “star stuff ” to keep it out of the grips of the evil pirate Black Stache.
